March 2026:

Another 8,000 lbs. of trash and 11,440 lbs. of scrap metal out has been removed from Norris Lake!
A big thank you to all of our great supporters (GoFundMe and others) who financially enabled us to completely remove (2) abandoned houseboats located on the Norris shorelines across from Hickory Star Marina.

Also, we would like to thank Norris Lake Litter Gitter and Jacksboro Metals for their work on this project. These alliances have significantly enhanced our ability to complete this work. Litter Gitter and their relationship with Jacksboro Metals provided the trash and scrap metal dumpsters as a donation to this project!  A big thank you to Hickory Star Marina for allowing us to haul to and out of their beachhead.

All waste was hauled across the lake to the Hickory Star Marina parking lot and loaded in a 30 yd. dumpster. The waste material didn't fill the 30 yd. dumpster so the NLPA/Litter Gitter crew took the opportunity to locate and haul Styrofoam from the islands to fill it to the rim.

All salvaged steel was hauled across the lake and piled in the Hickory Star Marina parking lot where it was loaded and hauled by Jacksboro Metals.

These pictures show the empty sites of the abandoned boats and the additional trash that was removed from Norris Lake.

Again, a big thank you to all our supporters. You make this work possible, and we consider it a big win towards keeping our lake clean!

March 2026:

NLPA-Litter Gitter volunteers are at it again!

Our current project involved preparing the 2025 abandoned houseboat located on the west end shoreline of Sunset Bay to be floated off the lake as soon as the water level allows. We have temporarily patched the visible hull leaks and covered broken windows to keep water from spring rains out of the boat. Once again, we thank Jacksboro Metals for enabling ground transport of this 40’ vessel off Norris Lake.

These pictures show the progression of the boat; before the NLPA-Litter Gitter involvement and now ready for the water levels to rise to float it off the lake!

We will update the community when this project is complete.
